FINAL STAGE: Work is continuing on the bridge at Ebbw Vale that will connect Citiswich Industrial Park.

WORK has started on the final stages of a $13 million bridge and road project that will connect Brisbane Road with the Citiswich Business Park and the Warrego Highway.

Citiswich developers, Walker Corporation, are footing the bill for the project, which the group says will improve access to their estate and save large vehicles travelling down River Road in Dinmore.

Walker Corporation's national industrial manager Michael Sutherland said the Hoepner Road extension project would take about three months to complete.

He said the new road, which is between the Ebbw Vale train station and Dinmore, would become an important piece of road infrastructure for business and local residents.

"Once the new road opens in June this year, residents and local businesses in Ipswich will be able to enjoy a new, faster connection on the Warrego Highway," Mr Sutherland said.

"We expect over 7000 vehicles per day will use this new road, alleviating traffic from the nearby River Road which is a predominantly residential area. This is a great result for Ipswich residents."

Two stages of the Hoepner Road project have already been completed - the extension of the existing road to Ebbw Vale Train Station and the building of a rail bridge overpass crossing railway tracks north of Ebbw Vale Train station.

Workers are now beginning to extend the road from the bridge to Brisbane Road.

Traffic lights will be placed on the Brisbane Road and Hoepner Road intersection along with the inclusion of landscaping, street lights and pedestrian crossings. Citiswich Business Park is Queensland's largest industrial development and is attracting major jobs and growth to Ipswich.

Businesses including Australian Pharmaceutical Industries, The Reject Shop, Capral Aluminium and Caltex have moved to the estate.
