"Land grab " takes hold in western corridor
![]() A major player in the national industrial property market, Walker Corporation, is developing two major industrial properties in south-east Queensland, including the landmark $1bn CITISWICH Business Park on the junction of the Ipswich, Warrego and Cunningham Highways near Ipswich. Walker’s National Industrial Manager, Michael Sutherland, said they have experienced a strong surge in enquiries over the last 3 months across the pre-lease, turnkey and land sales markets. Mr Sutherland said “The increase in enquiry has been brought on by a number of factors, including growing consumer and business confidence and efforts by Ipswich City Council to place Ipswich and the greater Western Corridor region in a strong position to capitalise on the economic recovery. Council are working proactively to attract new industry to the region, while delivering on fast planning approvals and transport and services infrastructure vital to helping industrial businesses prosper. “The carry-on effect of the economic downturn means businesses are now placing a greater emphasis on finding property solutions that cut costs and improve their supply chain logistics. CITISWICH becomes a logical choice for these businesses as it provides a cost-effective property solution while still maintaining excellent access to the national highway network and a growing labour force. “Businesses like API and The Reject Shop have recognized this through their commitments to the estate – we’re almost finished building over 50,000sqm of new industrial space for these two major businesses who are making long-term commitments to Ipswich and the greater western corridor region,” he added. Walker is actively developing over $3bn of industrial property nationally. Their latest acquisition is a new 30 hectare industrial estate at Murrumba Downs which will be released to market shortly under the name North Point Business Park.
