D.A. Granted for CITISWICH Stage 1
Walker Corporation’s billion dollar CITISWICH Industrial Estate has been given formal development approval by the Ipswich City Council for Stage 1. The 335 hectare integrated business precinct near Ipswich will feature a mix of industrial, commercial, residential, open space and business uses in a master planned estate. Businesses already located on the estate include Capral Aluminium and Australian Hardboards. Following this development approval, serviced land will be available in Stage 1 of CITISWICH in July 2008, and will include lots ranging in size from 4000 sqm to 12 hectares. Lots will be available for purchase, lease or purpose-built turnkey projects. Prices will start from around $250 per sqm for land purchase and $90-100 per sqm for lease. Already Walker Corporation has agreed on terms with businesses to take up approximately 10 hectares of the first stage of the estate. The new businesses that will take up residence on CITISWICH operate in logistics, construction, fabrication, storage and a commercial laundry. Later stages of CITISWICH will offer lots from as small as 1000 sqm. CITISWICH is situated 22 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD and eight kilometers from Ipswich, and has been tipped to become the gateway to the Western Corridor, connecting businesses to the major transport and economic flows to and from south-east Queensland. Positioned at the junction of two national highways – the Warrego and Cunningham Highways – CITISWICH is poised to become a strategic employment centre for up to 5000 people. Walker Corporation Executive Chairman, Lang Walker, said the highway location and national connectivity would provide excellent access to transport infrastructure. “Planned highway and local road upgrades will significantly improve traffic flow and access,” he said. “The location in the rapidly-expanding south-west corridor offers advantages for businesses seeking to relocate due to inner city land supply shortages and high rents, or new businesses seeking to establish corporate base in South-East Queensland.” Ipswich Mayor, Cr Paul Pisasale said Walker Corporation’s commitment to develop the CITISWICH industrial estate as a first class centre for business and employment demonstrated the Ipswich region’s growing status as a great place to live, work play and to invest. “The development approval for Stage One of CITISWICH underscores the rapid population and economic growth taking place in Ipswich,” he said. “The Council has also made a commitment to forge close relations with local businesses and to provide the necessary resources to help them thrive. “As plans for CITISWICH evolve, we are certain to see many more new industries making the most of the area’s strategic location, transport connections and prosperity stemming from natural growth. “CITISWICH will be one of a number of major industrial land estates in the region that make it very attractive for large and small corporations to choose to make Ipswich their home.” Walker Corporation has a diverse portfolio of innovative, high quality developments across all property sectors and is one of Australia’s most successful long term property groups, with projects valued at $1.8 billion in Queensland alone.
