US giant Costco selects Walker’s $1 Billion Citiswich Business Park in Ipswich as second Queensland destination

Walker Corporation's $1 billion Citiswich Business Park, 25 minutes west of Brisbane in Ipswich, has been given a major boost with US retail giant Costco confirming the park will be the location of their second Queensland store.

Costco has confirmed that Development Applications have been lodged with Ipswich City Council.

The signing of Costco is a major coup for Walker Corporation as the US giant was looking at a range of sites around Brisbane, where it already has a North Lakes outlet in operation.

Costco has secured an Ashburn Road site opposite the Puma Travel Centre, Bundamba on a site comprising some 6.5 hectares.

Managing Director Patrick Noone, said "We are thrilled to be continuing our investment in South East Queensland with this new location in Ipswich. We have been trading in North Lakes since 2014 with great success and are excited to be bringing Costco to a dynamic, ever growing region.

"We will continue to actively engage with our Queensland based suppliers, look to recruit over 280 staff from the local area and bring great prices in relation to a wide range of products and services", he added.

Site preparation works will commence immediately with Costco's construction program scheduled for an opening of this second Costco store in Queensland aimed for 2018.

Queensland General Manager for Walker Corporation, Mr Peter Saba said "We are seeing international, national and local businesses recognizing the strategic location of Citiswich for their customers and operations.

"The new motorway has opened up the whole South East Queensland region with a very wide retail and business catchment, while cutting travel times to the Port of Brisbane, CBD, key business and residential centres.

"Major logistics group are locating at Citiswich because of its ability to service a wide area throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales, as we are close to three major highways"rdquo;, he added.

Costco is expected to attract a range of businesses to Citiswich, which is becoming a prime destination for retail, industrial, bulky goods and trade businesses in South-East Queensland.

Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Andrew Antoniolli, said "This is a major development and we are delighted that Costco has decided to make Ipswich its second home, after opening its first mega store and petrol station in North Lakes.

"It will be in an ideal location to service the Ipswich region and, in fact, the entire area west of Brisbane. It will bring thousands of people to Ipswich every day and the direct and indirect benefits to the city will be enormous,"rdquo; he added.   Walker Corporation has a range of fully serviced lots for purchase or lease, ranging in size from 2,000 square metres to 20,000 square metres, with B-Double access throughout and direct access to the Warrego Highway and Brisbane Road via the newly built Hoepner Road.
